DALLAS, TX & MINNEAPOLIS, MN — Texas Oncology, a leading physician-owned oncology practice and a key component of The US Oncology Network, today announced a significant expansion of its relationship with Vidscrip, a digital health platform that automates patient communication through physician-recorded video.
Following a highly successful pilot program that enrolled over 22,000 patients into "Vidscrip Journeys," the Texas Oncology Board of Directors has voted to scale the technology to all providers across its 300-location practice. Vidscrip Journeys provide patients with educational resources and recorded messages from their own care providers, delivering essential information and guidance throughout their treatment path.
The initiative is led by Debra Patt, M.D., PhD, MBA, Executive Vice President of Texas Oncology and a nationally recognized breast oncologist. Dr. Patt, who currently serves as the president of the Community Oncology Alliance (COA) and on the ASCO Board of Directors, also chairs the ASCO Artificial Intelligence Task Force.
"At Texas Oncology, our patient engagement strategy is built on the foundation of clear, compassionate communication and clinical excellence," said Dr. Patt. "Vidscrip Journeys have become a vital component of that strategy. By providing patients with personalized video content from their own doctors before they even step into the office, we are reducing anxiety and ensuring they arrive better informed. We’ve seen a marked improvement in the patient experience; patients feel more prepared, which allows our clinical time to be spent on deeper, more complex aspects of their care."
The impact on the patient-physician dynamic was echoed by Dr. Joseph "Chip" Hodges, a radiation oncologist at Texas Oncology. "My interaction with patients was totally different given they felt they knew me already. It was really an 'aha' moment for me as these patients were engaged really fast having known a little more about me. This is powerful!"
The pilot’s success highlights a growing demand for digital tools that humanize the patient experience rather than automate it away.
"The entire Vidscrip team has been deeply invested in this work with Texas Oncology," said John Brownlee, CEO of Vidscrip. "We are thrilled with the results and the decision to expand utilization across the practice. This relationship validates our mission to put the doctor's voice at the center of the patient experience. Looking forward, Vidscrip is committed to expanding its presence in the oncology market, providing specialized support for the unique challenges faced by cancer patients and their care teams."
Adding a deeply personal perspective, Dr. Susan MacDonald, Vidscrip’s Chief Medical Officer, added "As a person who was diagnosed with de novo stage four cancer in my early forties, I know firsthand that cancer robs you of your sense of control. I am incredibly excited to partner with Texas Oncology on patient engagement that will reduce anxiety and arm cancer patients with the information they need to be an active participant in their care."
Through this expansion, Texas Oncology continues to lead the way in clinical innovation, leveraging technology to enhance the community-based cancer care model.
